Sleeps 21, comfortably.

Eleven bedrooms across the camp, with real beds and doors that close, plus a couple of sofa beds for the overflow crew. Everyone piles into the great room by day. At night, each branch of the family has its own quiet corner.

Friends Lake is private-access-only — one of the cleanest, calmest lakes in New York State — and Camp Sunnyside sits right on it, with 150 feet of your own shoreline, a sandy shallow area made for kids, a dock, and a waterfront deck for the long evenings. Swim off the dock, take the boat out at sunset, or float in water clear enough to see the bottom.

The classic Camp Sunnyside week. Days on the dock, the boat out on the lake, paddleboards and kayaks, sunset cruises, and campfires with the whole family. This is the reunion everyone means to have and never quite plans — the one where the grandkids catch their first fish. Summer stays are one-week bookings, Sunday to Sunday.

Gore Mountain, New York’s largest ski resort, is 15 minutes up the road. Ski all day, then come home to two fireplaces and the hot tub. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are all right here. Shorter winter stays welcome — just ask.

Why don’t you list nightly rates?

Every stay here is custom. Because you’re reserving the entire camp for your specific group and dates, we quote each booking personally rather than posting a fixed rate. Tell us your dates and who’s coming, and you’ll get a clear, custom quote — usually within a day. Summer rates generally run $2,500–$3,500/night; September–May runs $850–$1,750/night.

Is there a minimum stay?

Yes. Summer stays are booked as one-week stays, Sunday to Sunday. In the off-season (fall, winter, and spring), shorter stays and long weekends are welcome — just ask.

When can we come — is the camp open year-round?

Yes, Camp Sunnyside is a four-season camp, fully winterized and open year-round — including the Guest House. Summer is for the lake and the boat; fall for the foliage and the fire pits; winter for skiing Gore Mountain, the hot tub, and the fireplaces; spring for a quiet early-season getaway.

Do you allow pets?

We’re a pet-free camp, which keeps the houses comfortable and allergy-friendly for every family that stays.

What are the house rules?

This is a private family camp, and we ask guests to treat it like one — no events or parties beyond your own group, and a little care for our quiet lakefront neighbors.

How do we pay?

Once your dates are confirmed and the rental agreement is signed, we’ll send simple payment instructions. Most guests pay the deposit and balance by secure bank transfer; check and Venmo are also welcome. Half is due at booking — this deposit is the booking prepayment, not a separate security deposit — with the balance due 90 days before arrival. Cancel at least 90 days before arrival for a full refund; at least 60 days out, half is refunded; after that, the payment is non-refundable.

How does booking work?

The owners will reply personally — usually within a day — to answer your questions, confirm availability, and send a custom quote and rental agreement. There’s no instant online checkout: every booking is arranged one-to-one, so your week is exactly right before anything is confirmed.

Is the camp good for young kids?

Very. The main house is single-story, there’s a crib, a pack ’n play, and a high chair, and the lake has a sandy, shallow swim area made for little ones.

How do we get there?

Camp Sunnyside is in Chestertown, NY, about an hour north of Albany International Airport (45 minutes from Floyd Bennett Memorial in Glens Falls, about 1h15 from the Albany-Rensselaer train). A car is highly recommended — rideshare isn’t reliable out here.
